Meet the Dockmaster
He's a Formula 1 fan and known for his French Toast recipe - meet Nathan Breyette, Dockmaster at Charlestown Marina.
How long have you been at the marina?
It will be three years in August. I've been a boater for most of my life, but I started professionally boating in 2018. I used to be in corporate sales, then quit and moved to South Africa. I went to a sailing school there to get endorsed with my yacht masters offshore license.
Where did you grow up?
In a small town called Chazy, New York. Southern Canada, as I like to call it. It is in northeast New York state on the banks of the great Lake Champlain.
What is your first memory of being on a boat?
I'm an August baby, which means I was probably on a boat within weeks of being born. So I don't remember my first time on a boat, but it was around then.
What songs are on your summer playlist?
My go-to playlist right now is called "Sax House," so like jazzy house music is what I'm into right now. But I like to mix it up with any kind of music. From country to classical, I'll listen to it all.
Best advice for a first-time boater?
To get lessons on how to operate your vessel! And to check the weather.
Best spot for a lobster roll in town?
My wife and I have our own rating system for the lobster rolls we try. Yankee Lobster in the Seaport has the best lobster rolls that we have had so far.
What is the best compliment that a boater has given you?
It's probably when they compliment our staff and how kind and helpful the people here are.
What sport team(s) will we catch you cheering on?
This might get me in some hot water, but the two sports teams that I am most passionate about are the Montreal Canadians and the New York Yankees.
What's one hidden gem in the area?
The Boston Harbor Islands are just incredible!
What is your favorite part about your job?
It's the customers! And my team. Just the people in general.
