The holiday season is in full swing here in Boston! With so much to do in the city, it is the perfect place to bring the family to spend time together. The team at Charlestown Marina has compiled a list of events happening this weekend for you to explore!
Get a head start on your holiday shopping at one of the many winter markets this weekend. Local vendors at the SoWa Winter Market, Holiday Market at Snowport, and the Fenway Flea Winter Market will have something for everyone on your list. Time Out Market is hosting a Holiday Sip and Shop on Saturday, and the Boston Women’s Holiday Market at Harpoon Brewery is on Saturday as well. On Newbury Street, find the Junior League of Boston’s Holiday Market, and at Democracy Brewing is the Boston Beer Tasting and Auction Fundraiser. This weekend is the South End Holiday Stroll, and the Sam Adams Brewery Winter Market is on Sunday. The Boston Public Market’s Creator Market is this weekend with lots of food and local craft vendors showcased. So no matter which neighborhood of Boston you choose to explore this weekend, there will be plenty of opportunities to find the perfect gift for you or those you love. Speaking of holiday shopping, have you gotten a gift for the boater in your life? Consider a Harbor Fuels gift card so they can fuel up for their next adventure on the water!
For the arts fans in the family, consider seeing Six, the hit musical that took Broadway by Storm and is now playing at the Emerson Colonial Theater. See the Boston Ballet's performance of "The Nutcracker," or for a different take on the classic show, visit the "Immersive Nutcracker" at the Lighthouse Artspace! Cirque de Soleil is in town this weekend, see their "Twas the Night Before..." show at the Wang Theater. And the Boston Pops are a must-see for visitors during the holiday season!
TD Garden will be the place to be for sports fans, with Bruins taking on the Avalance and the Celtics playing the Heat this weekend. For the history buffs in the family, sign up for the Historic Holiday Stroll along the Freedom Trail. Also take a ride to visit the historic Plimoth Patuxet Museums – this weekend they are holding a Pinecone Wreath Making Workshop for you and the family to get crafty. Looking for laughs this weekend? See Anthony Devito at the Hideout this weekend, or swing by the weekly (free) Comedy at King’s show this weekend. Or, take a short ferry or the Blue Line over to East Boston to see Stand-Up Eastie: Comedy for the Community at ZUMIX.
See the city become illuminated for the holidays! In Downtown Boston you will find the Christopher Columbus Park trellis, which is illuminated nightly with a magnificent light and wreath display. Boston Common Holiday Tree Lighting & Frog Pond Skating Spectacular will take place on Thursday, and Light Up Seaport will take place on Friday. To see a tour of lights throughout Boston neighborhoods, hop on Mayor Wu’s Enchanted Trolley! There is plenty of holiday spirit to be found at the Prudential Center, this weekend enjoy Carolers and Cocoa on Friday, and Santa in the City through the weekend. Not far off from the Orange Line and Commuter Rail is the Stone Zoo, which is featuring their holiday Zoolights display this weekend as well.
Interested in holiday nightlife? There are countless places in Boston to grab a drink – get in the spirit this weekend by dressing up for SantaCon or the Ugly Sweater Pub Crawls happening in the city. On Saturday, decorate a gingerbread house at the Lansdowne Pub – all ages are welcome in the afternoon, but it will turn into an adults-only event in the evening.
A short ride outside of the city is Cambridge, a great place to explore while visiting Boston. Take the red line to Harvard and sign up for a tour of Harvard Square. Be sure to snap a photo with the John Harvard statue while you are there! While in Harvard, see a production of Life of Pi at the Loeb Drama Center on Sunday, or see a screening of A Muppet Christmas Carol at the Harvard Art Museum. Harvard Square also has numerous dining options to cater to all kinds of palates, arrive in the morning or early afternoon to enjoy brunch at Tatte, and for dinner enjoy a meal at the lively Felipe’s Taqueria.
